MDA Three Cheers Event

Last week I attended the Muscular Dystrophy Three Cheers Wine Tasting Event. MDA is one of my favorite organizations and I always look forward to seeing my buddy Emma and her amazing family. They always do fabulous events throughout the city and held at the beautiful McCormick and Smiths Castle Room this event was nothing less. Vineyards from all throughout New England brought samples of their local wine and the room was set up with a great silent auction and entertainment. I'm so honored to have become such a part of the MDA Organization this year and am so happy because I just found out that after I give up my crown the Russells have asked me to continue to be Emma's MDA buddy! As I was getting pictures for this post I was looking through my albums and found a picture of Aaron, Emma and I from my very first MDA appearance as Miss Mass. I can't even believe how much Emma has grown in the past year! She is growing into such a beautiful young girl and I feel so lucky to be her friend :)

Journey Forward

I recently participated in the Journey Forward Celebrity Bowling event. Aaron and I went out to Kings at Legacy Place for a great night of bowling, fashion and fun! Journey Forward is an amazing non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those who have suffered a Spinal Cord injury through an intense exercise and rehab program. Dan Cummings, the founder of Journey Forward, is one of the nicest most inspirational guys you'll meet and motivated by his own story of spinal cord injury and comeback he started this organization to help others who face such life altering challenging experiences. Some great people came out for the event including local athletes, Christopher Knight of the Brady Brunch and I was especially excited to meet my dad's former hockey teammate and class act guy Ray Bourque. Boston Fashion Week 2010

So its 5am and another crazy but amazing day has already started for me! Since Miss USA I have started working with an agency in NYC and I'm off to a final casting for a job I've been working hard to get for the past few weeks! I'm off to a very quick trip to the big city and then am flying back right after the casting for the meet and greet tonight with all of the Miss Massachusetts USA 2011 contestants! I figured I'd use this train ride to catch you up on what I've been up to the past few weeks as my year begins to come to an end. So let's start the catch up with Boston Fashion Week 2010 :)

I started off Fashion Week 2010 with one of the biggest shows of the year, the Emerging Trends event at the gorgeous Park Plaza. Reaz Hoque and the Synergy team put on a first class event, worthy of NYC Fashion week status. There were over 20 designers from all over the world, over 50 models and a fabulous team of hair and makeup artists backstage from Indra Salon in Andover and the Makeup Artists, lead be the amazing Andrea Ducharme. I had the honor of hosting the show and it was a blast! Hosting is truly what I love to do and what I went to school for so I love when I get the chance to do what I love! Reaz and I are currently working hard on a great New Years Eve project in Boston, so stay tuned!

Sunday night the festivities continued as I headed over to the gorgeous Bond at the Langham hotel for my friend's Monica and Natalie Pietrzac's fashion show at Bond. The Siostra Productions Co-founders always know how to put on a great show and bring out Boston's best! I was so excited because I got asked to do some reporting on the big event for NESN's Dirty Water TV. I loved having the chance to interview some of my friends and report on such a stylish event!

The week continued as I did a modeling job for Neimans, a few Bridal show fittings and got ready for some other big events and jobs. I wrapped up the week doing a special Fashion Week wrap-up 30 minute segment for NESN at the gorgeous waterfront. It was a crazy week but I loved every minute of it! Thanks to Reaz and Julie Fairwether for including me in some great events! Good job Boston!!

Favorite Time of Year xo

  So now that it's October it is officially my favorite time of year!!! I wokeup this morning to crisp air coming in from my window and the smell of fall as I made my pumpkin coffee while watching my morning shows :) There's something about this time of year that just makes me smile, the scarves, boots, cozy starbucks drinks, pumpkin patches, holiday get togethers, it just all brings back wonderful memories for me. Holidays have always been so big in my family and my mom always made this time of year so fun and special in our household but besides that I think I officially associate this time of year with "pageant season" and I have such fun memories from the past few years.
  I have seen many of the beautiful girls lately competing in this year's pageant, whether it be at the gym, in the city or at different events and jobs it's always so fun running into the girls and sharing that common experience with them of, "trust me I know what you're going through." With a little under two month until the big weekend this is what all us girls know as crunch time. Even though the last few years I have spent these months dieting, going to the gym bright and early every morning, staying up late for fittings and packing, organizing interview binders, shopping for last minute things, choosing program book pictures and getting ready for orientation they have been some of them most enjoyable months of my life.
  This morning I thought back to my first appearance as a teen titleholder back as Miss Illinois Teen USA 2002 (my dad played for the Chicago Blackhawks for 16 years so I lived in Chicago when I was younger) and I couldn't help but smile. It seems like soooooo long ago yet at the same time just yesterday. I remember my mom drove me bright and early to a Chicago Mall for a First Book event at a Build A Bear store. I was only 17 years old and I was wearing this bright peach matching skirt and jacket, I remember thinking it was sooo cute at the time haha :) I read a children's book to about 20 young girls and boys and then handed out books to each child. I've always loved children and remember how much it meant to me to work with these young kids. It was my first experience with a pageant and I really had no idea what I was doing, but all I remember is how much fun my mom and I had together that year :)
  After that year, I went onto college and lived the normal life of a college kid; working hard in school, joining a sorority, getting internships to help me learn what it was I wanted to do with my life. I never thought I would do a pageant again because having only done one I really didn't ever consider myself a "pageant girl." It was my junior year in college I started getting the itch again. I wanted something to inspire me, push me, challenge me and I wanted to be apart of that excitement again of going towards a dream that inside I know I have had since I was a little girl.
  After 5 years of training, growing and realizing competing at Miss USA was something I wanted more than anything my dream finally came true last November and it's been the most amazing wirlwhind every since. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone, even though I have done everything I wanted to do and more, hundreds of events and appearances and have made so many good memories and lifelong friends, time really does fly to fast when you're having fun.
  So once again it's that time of year and I can't help but think about everything the upcoming contestants are going through and how hard they are working right now. I just wanted to write this post for you girls to encourage you to enjoy every single day on this crazy journey! Miss Mass USA and Teen USA is just one weekend and I promise it will be one of the most fun weekends of your life but I want to remind you that those months leading up have what have given me some of the happiest moments I have had on my Miss USA journey. Take a second to enjoy some great music during those morning workouts, thank your moms for accompanying you to all those tedious fittings, laugh at yourself when you're in a huge heap of clothes trying to figure out what to pack, make a new friend at orientation and just soak in every moment! Take a second today to thank the person who has been there the most for you along this journey, for me that's my mom :) So today's post is for her. I love you mom and wouldn't be where I am today without you! xo

Alzheimers Memory Walk 2010

I get a little teary eyed as I write this blog post because I am truly sooooo incredibly grateful for the girls that came out bright and early on a Sunday morning to do this walk with me. A group of 2011 Miss & Teen Contestants along with my sister, Katie and myself headed out to Worcester for the Alzherimers Memory Walk. We did the walk in honor of my beautiful Nonnie who was one of my best friends and the best grandma a girl could ask for. It was such a wonderful day getting to know some of the girls and walking for a great cause!

People ask me all the time if the stories about pageant girls are true; are they really mean, competitive, snobby? I always try to tell them that I have met some of the kindest most amazing girls during my years with the Miss USA system and the girls that came out to walk with me are a true example of how wonderful these girls are. Thanks everyone who joined me it really meant a lot! xo

Boston Fashion Week 2010

For someone who loves Boston and loves Fashion this is one of the best weekends of the year ... Boston Fashion Week 2010! I am so excited for this jam packed weekend and honored to be apart of many of the exciting events this year.

On Saturday night I'll be hosting the biggest show for this year's Fashion Week, Emerging Trends 2010. This show is comprised of 22 designers from all over the world, 45 models and will be held at the gorgeous Castle at the Boston Park Plaza. Sunday night I'll be reporting for NESN and covering my dear friend Monica Pietrzac and Miss Connecticut USA 2009's big show as her company Siostra Productions puts on a night of fashion, glamour and great entertainment! Come out to both and see what Boston Fashion is all about!

USO Wounded Warriors Event

I recently attended the 2010 USO Golf Tournament in Greenwhich, CT with one of my closest Miss USA friends, Miss Maine. The event was held at the gorgeous Stanwhich Country Club and was a fabulous day with some truly inspirational people. The day was to honor a group of wounded warriors who have risked their lives to fight for our country and as they are now home and working really hard recovering and rehabbing their injuries the USO wanted to plan a nice day for them to get out and have a nice enjoyable day all in honor of their strength and hard work.

Katie and I had the honor to golf, mingle and eat dinner with some of the warriors and they couldn't have been more kind and fun to be with! We also got to listen to amazing entertainment by the Liberty Bills, a group of talented performers from New York that go around singing and dancing at all of the USO events and representing the USO. It was a wonderful day and I look forward to working with the USO more in the future!

September has been one of my busiest months yet at Miss Mass and I've loved every minute!! One of the best things about this year is having the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in Boston and meeting so many amazing people! Hi Everyone! It's been a few weeks since I've last blogged, but I've been busy as ever and with only 3 months until a new Miss Mass is crowned I have been trying to soak up every moment. It's truly been one of the most amazing years of my life and one of the reasons is because I've been able to share it with my teen and dear friend Brooke.

A few weeks ago I traveled to the Bahamas to go cheer her on at Miss Teen USA and to reunite with some of my favorite girls from the Miss USA class of 2010. I had never been to the Bahamas before so I was so excited to have a reason to go to the gorgeous Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

I met up and roomed with my friends Miss Pennsylvania, Miss Delaware and Miss Montana for the weekend. We had a great time laying by the pool, catching up and supporting our beautiful teens at prelims and finals night. I was so excited because Rima even got a little time off while we were there so we got to spend some time with her. Being Massachusetts and Michigan, Rima and I were next to each other for almost all of the events at Miss USA because everything including competition, finals and even our interview is done in alphabetical order. I feel so lucky to have gotten to know Rima throughout our 3 weeks at Miss USA and can 100% say she is one of the most down to earth, genuine and hard working girls I have ever met. I am so happy she is our Miss USA and love that someone so sweet and real represents our Miss USA class of 2010. I had the best weekend ever catching up with my Miss USA friends and couldn't have been more proud of Brooke!!

2011 Celtics Dance Auditions

I had such a great time being a celebrity judge for the 2010-2011 Celtics Dance Team Auditions a few weeks ago. The event was held at the House of Blues and was a fabulous event! I had never been to the tryouts before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I was blown away! All of the dancers were sooo incredibly talented and beautiful. I was so impressed! It was especially fun to be a judge because the competition was kind of like a pageant with an opening number, swimsuit competition and a solo routine, with the finalists being announced at the end of the evening.

I have a huge appreciation for dance and anything entertainment related and definitely felt I could relate to these girls because I know how it feels to be on stage, be judged and hope to hear your name at the end of the night. But anyone who knows me well knows as much as I love to dance it isn't my strongest area :) So in order to get a little help I brought along my dear friend Lindsey who is a former professional dancer with the Eagles. We made a fun night of it and went to dinner before where Linds told me what I should be looking for from a dancer's perspective. I tried to combine my knowledge of performing and pageants with what Lindsey taught me and be the best judge I could be. But it was pretty hard because if I could have I would have put every girl on the team :) I now know how hard it is to be judging and definitely realize what a big job the Miss Mass 2011 judges will have! Linds and I had such a fun night and look forward to watching the new Celtics dancers strut their stuff this season!

VolleyPalooza

Volleyball is one of my absolutely favorite hobbies! I played all throughout high school and played in the Junior Olympics three times in Salt Lake City, Louisville and New Orleans! Playing sports growing up taught me so much about teamwork, dedication, staying healthy and beyond that allowed me to travel the country competing and make tons of amazing friends. It was after my volleyball career was over that I got into pageants because I just really missed having something to work for, challenging myself and I just missed the competition. I actually got the opportunity to play a little bit at Miss USA with Miss Oklahoma and Miss Texas, who are volleyball players as well. They filmed a segment showcasing all our talents and the three of us got to show our volleyball skills :)

Since I don't get that many opportunities to play anymore I was really excited to participate in Scene Magazine's Volleypalooza Beach tourney!! We set up a Miss Mass team and had a blast! I'm not gonna tell you the final score, let's just say we lost pretty bad haha :) But we had a great time and it was so good to play again. It was such a fun day with my pageant family!

American Girl Day :)

My favorites times as Miss Mass are when I get to do events with children :) This weekend I had such a fun Friday night with 10 of the most adorable little girls! A few months ago St. Jude's hospital hosted a charity event and auctioned off a day at American Girl with Miss Mass so this weekend I got to spend the day at my new friend Izzy's 10th Birthday Party :) The girls and their mom's were sooo sweet and I didn't want to leave! I am convinced that we have 10 future Miss Mass contestant's on our hands :) They were so sweet asking me tons of questions about the pageants and how I achieved my goal. I loved spending the night with them and invited Izzy to come to my pageant in November. It was a wonderful evening and being around the girls and being able to motivate them to go for their dreams reminded me why I love my job so much! Happy 10th Birthday Izzy! xo

StyleBoston Adventure

Since Miss USA is over I am busier than ever back at work with StyleBoston! We have been working so hard to find the best adventures, events, new restaraunts, openings and uniques things for our viewers to enjoy this summer in New England! We've been shooting non-stop and have some amazing segments coming up this month! One of my shoots last week was unique because I was able to have one of my closest friends and Miss Vermont USA, Nydelis, join me as a co-host!

Nydelis and I along with the entire StyleBoston team spent an entire day shooting on the gorgeous Boston Harbor! Flagship Adventures, an amazing company, that does boat tours, whale watching tours and island adventures hosted us for the day and showed us a different side of Beantown. We spent the day on their gorgeous boats, cruising from island to island and learning all about the historic islands and harbors. As the gorgeous New England weather heats up I recommend Flagship Adventures to anyone looking for a day of fun, sun and a unique summer experience! Tune into NECN next Wednesday at 7:30p.m. to see Nydelis and I as we head out on the water! :)

Striking Out Against Cancer

Last week the Pawtucket RedSox girlfriend's & wives sponsored an amazing event called Striking out Against Cancer. The wonderful night of bowling, food and baseball was all to benefit The Tomorrow Fund, a wonderful non-profit organization that provides financial and emotional support for children with cancer and their families. Pawsox's Manager Torey Luvullo's wife Krysten spent so much time putting together this fabulous event and Aaron and I were so happy to help out in anyway we could.

All of the fans are so supportive of the guys throughout the year, so it was so much fun getting to know some of the fans personally, raise money for a wonderful cause and share a night of laughs. Through the generosity of the PawSox to donate tickets and other raffle items we were able to raise over $1,000 for the Tomorrow Fund and we look forward to working with them more in the future! Thank you so much to everyone who came out!

It's summer time and the StyleBoston crew is busy as ever covering all that New England has to offer during this beautiful time of year! Every Wednesday night at 7:30 you can tune in to see some great ideas for summer getaways, fun summer events, the latest fashion trends, the best new restaraunts and everything else you don't want to miss out on!

Yesterday he had such a blast shooting a segment for "Great Summer Date Night Ideas." My co-host and I were were spoiled for the day at the gorgeous Boston Harbor Hotel as they showed us some great ideas for summer date nights with your special someone. We were treated to a beautiful harbor cruise, a delicious summer picnic overlooking the harbor and some treatments in their first class spa! The weather was beautiful and it was so fun to see a different side of Boston! Next week I am headed to the Mizu Salon Fashion Show to cover some of the hot hairstyle trends for summer and am going on an adventure to some different New England islands to discover the best spots for you guys!

Best Buddies Hyannis Port Challenge Weekend

Each time I update my blog it gets harder & harder because I keep wanting to start off every post with this has been my favorite event yet haha :) But it is so true, my year just keeps getting better and better and different people and events are inspiring me every single day! This past weekend truly was one of the best weekends I have had as Miss Massachusetts as I packed my bags and checked into the gorgeous Seaport Hotel for the annual Best Buddies Hyannis Port Challenge weekend!
Best Buddies is one of my favorite organizations to work with for many reason! One the staff and the people that put on these events could not be more kind or passionate about what they do! Their passion for the job and these children is contagious and it's impossible to not have a great time when you are around these amazing people! Second, these children that we get to spend time with are some of the most loving, cheerful people I have ever met and they truly love life! I have never been given so many hugs and asked to dance so many times as I was this past weekend with these awesome kids :)

Friday night after my roomie Nydelis, Miss Vermont, and I checked in we headed over to Harvard for the big kickoff event, a flag football game with Tom Brady and Rima, Miss USA! It was sooo fun to catch up with Rima! Massachusetts & Michigan are next to each other in the alphabet so I was lucky enough to spend lots of time with Rima at Miss USA and really get to know her well. Not only is she beautiful but she is sooo kind and a blast to be around! She is going to make you guys so proud as Miss USA because she has such a wonderful heart and a great work ethic and energy, which we all know you need with the demanding schedule as Miss USA! After the football game we headed into a beautiful gala where we had a wonderful dinner with famed FoodNetwork Chef Guy Fieri, Tom Brady and a bunch of other wonderful celeb guests! We ate, danced and had a blast!

Saturday we woke up bright and early to head to Hyannis Port! Unfortunately Nydelis and I were scheduled to do the 5K but it got rained out because of a really bad storm that morning, but there was plenty for us to do instead! We played with our buddies, learned to ride Tandem bikes and did friendship races with all the kids! We waited at the finishline to cheer on our awesome teens who participated in the bike ride! So proud of Brooke, Shelby, Morgan and Norissa! After the long day of biking and spending time with our buddies we headed into another gorgeous gala! There was a lobster feast waiting for us and plenty of dancing with entertainment by KC and the Sunshine Band.
After a wonderful event it was back to our hotel to relax and enjoy some time together! Nydelis, Norissa and I ordered up some yummy room service, kicked back and talked about what a fabulous weekend it was! Best Buddies is a first class organization who care about nothing more than the happiness of these wonderful children! I was so honored to be apart of such a great event and meet some fabulous people! I am now working on planning my own Best Buddies fundraising event, involving the Pawtucket Red Sox, so I will keep everyone posted on details for that!

Life's A Journey

It's been almost 3 weeks since Miss USA and in some ways it seemed like just yesterday I was standing on that stage. It was one of the biggest events of my entire life and something I have dreamed about since I was a little girl. No matter how many days go by the memories and emotions of those two weeks spent at Miss USA will never be lost from my mind or heart.

As I've had some time back in Boston and am getting back into the swing of things at home and my job as Miss Mass I've had a little bit of time to reflect on everything that has happened and all that I've learned throughout this amazing year. I truly realized through all of this that yes, it is important to set your goals high, but it is even more important to appreciate and take in everyday of the journey towards that dream. I have no regrets at all :) If I hadn't set my goal at winning Miss USA and done everything in my power to train and be ready then I wouldn't have been representing Massachusetts to the best of my ability or the amazing girls I had competed against for the title. But I have realized that it is so important to enjoy each and everyday along the way. Luckily I can say I have and I will continue to do so as I have 6 wonderful months ahead of me as Miss Massachusetts! I may not have left Miss USA with the crown but I left with a dream job as Miss Massachusetts, lifelong friends, the best directors a girl could ever ask for, the most loving family by my side and amazing friends and a wonderful jam packed schedule waiting for me at home. I am truly a lucky girl and this journey wouldn't have been the same without all of you!

To all of my pageant friends, as you get ready to compete for your state titles this Fall, please remember to take in every single day and enjoy it! I promise you no matter what the end result when the big day to face your dream comes you will take away so much! Remember how lucky you are to have a dream to look forward to and something that keeps you inspired everyday and be grateful for the people that make it possible for you! Love you all! xoxoxo

Fitness Seminar

While preparing for Miss USA the gym became my second home, but thanks to one of my closest friends and my amazing trainer Katie Boyd I didn't mind one bit :) This year Katie opened up her brand new gym which caters to women with a focus on her pageant girls. I couldn't have asked for a more inspiring and motivating environment to spend my hundreds of hours training for Miss USA. Katie not only helped me be physically ready for the pageant and for the swimsuit competition, but she helped me prepare mentally as well. I owe so much to her and wouldn't have been able to reach my fitness goal without her never ending support and butt kicking :)

This Saturday from 10-1pm Katie and I are putting on a fitness seminar for anyone who is interested in competing this year or anyone who just wanted to get a head start on a healthy summer! Everyone is invited and I especially encourage anyone gearing up for their state pageants! As sad as it makes me to say it, November will be here before you know it and a new Miss Massachusetts USA will be crowned! So do everything in your power to achieve your fitness goals and get started now!

Miss USA - An Adventure of a Lifetime xo

Hi Everyone!

It feels so good to be back to my blog and back to my wonderful life of being Miss Mass after a crazy but memorable 2 1/2 weeks in Las Vegas for Miss USA! It was everything I had imagined and truly 2 of the most amazing weeks of my life. I can't thank all of you enough for the love and support through this exciting time! Every note, call, message, text, gift was soooo appreciated and made me sooo proud to represent all of the amazing people of Massachusetts.

I was in Vegas for close to 3 weeks and it was nonstop from the day we got there! Our days were filled with rehearsals for the Live Show, touching charity events with some of my favorite organizations such as Best Buddies, events every night throughout Las Vegas to spread the word about MUO and inspirational meetings, seminars and lots of new friends! We were spoiled by the city of Las Vegas who opened their doors to welcome us to everything from fabulous dinners to a Barry Manilow show to culinary lessons, pool parties and plenty of fabulous events! I met sooo many amazing people throughout my two weeks there and made some lifelong friends among the other 50 contestants.

It was long hours and hard work but truly worth every second and I made sure to take it all in and be grateful everyday I was there. I had almost 100 amazing family and friends fly out for the weekend to support me and I am not exaggerating when I say Massachusetts had the biggest signs in the audience come finals night :) I was so proud!

I have dreamed of competing at Miss USA since I was a little girl and it was truly everything I had hoped for! But I must admit I am so excited about being back in Boston! As excited as I was to compete at Miss USA it is being Miss Massachusetts and the people I get to work with at home in Boston that makes me the most proud! It has been about 6 months since I won Miss Massachusetts and truly 6 of the best months of my life! I am looking forward to going nonstop for the next 6 and continuing to work with all of the amazing organizations and people of Mass! Thank you for being the most supportive friends a girl could ask for, it truly made this once in a lifetime experience that much more special!!

One of my absolute favorite things about Boston is that we have more colleges and universities here in our city than any other city in the entire country! There are such amazing schools here in Boston that attract students from all over the world. Visiting colleges, is one of my favorite hobbies! I find it so fun seeing different campuses and where different students get their educations.
Recently I have spent quite a lot of time at Harvard, one of the most prestigious and beautiful schools in the country! My first trip to Harvard was a few weeks ago for the WeCan conference, or the Women's Empowerment Conference. It was such a great day! I had been asked to put together an hour long workshop for all of the attendees discussing my journey to Miss USA and how I never gave up on my dream. I also went over interview techniques and tips that I have learned throughout my Miss USA prep. I was so humbled and overwhelmed by how warm and welcoming all of the amazing women were to me. The attendees included Harvard grad students, professors and numerous successful young business women, many who had started their own charities and companies. I couldn't believe they wanted to hear me talk! I was so surprised and excited when I got there and found out I was also receiving an award from the school for my work as Miss Massachusetts and my work throughout my state. My mom had flown in for the big day so it made it that much more special.

While there I had the opportunity to meet an amazing new friend named Jenn. Jenn is a student at Harvard and is very passionate about her work with the Special Needs Community. Jenn shared with me a story of her brother who she is very close to and who had inspired her charity work. I was extremely touched by her story and told her I wanted to help out in anyway I could! She took me up on the offer and explained to me how her goal was to get more Harvard students involved with the work she does. I have done a lot of work with both Best Buddies and the Special Olympics and told her I'd be happy to come speak to some of the students about my experience and why I have found it so incredibly worthwhile. The following week I spoke to the students at one of Jenn's Business school classes and they were all so receptive and warm! I even met a fellow USC Trojan who was attending Harvard for Grad school. It was a great day and Jenn and I were so happy to spread the word about these wonderful charities.

Everyone at Harvard has been so welcoming and they even allowed me to take a public speaking course there last week! It was one of the best classes I have ever taken and I can't wait to take more classes this summer!

Face Africa Gala

It's been awhile since I've been able to update my blog ... but it's for great reason ... Miss USA is right around the corner!! I have been going non stop with workout, prep, appearances, training, packing and most recently a beautiful sendoff party with my amazing family and friends! After another long but great day (segment on FOX Morning show, casting at my agency and tons of Miss USA fittings) I'm taking the night to relax and update you on all of the amazing things I have been up to the past few weeks!
Recently I attended an amazing event at the beautiful Taj hotel here in Boston along with Brooke and Ashley. The event was a gala for Face Africa, an outstanding organization that works to raise money to help the living conditions for hundreds of families throughout Africa. This event specifically focused on the need for clean water thorughout the African communites and how important it is for us to do our part.
The head of Starbucks and founder of Ethos water gave a wonderful talk and I learned so much about the different communites we were working to help. It really puts things into perspective, how lucky we are to have clean sanitary water everyday, even take a shower and wash our hands whenever we want! It is so important that we stay aware of what is going on in our world, appreciative of the amazing things we have here in our country and do our part to help the less fortunate. It was a wonderful night for an amazing cause.

Running for Life

I am so fortunate to live in such a vibrant, active, lively city as Boston. Last week was one of the biggest days in my city, the Boston Marathon, and the city was buzzing with excitement! I did my part to support all of the inspiring runners and the wonderful causes they run for by helping out with a beautiful event called Running For Life. Ed Rocha and Brian Holliday, two of the runners, were kind enough to invite me to help host their kickoff party and auction before the big day. The night raised money for The Boston Living Center, New England's largest HIV/AIDS community and resource center. I truly enjoyed learning more about the Living Center, meeting some of it's members as well as tons of runners! It was such a fun night and even better because my directors Laurie and Anthony and my stylist and friend Neil joined me as well! I had such a great night with some of my favorite people and my new friends Ed & Brian! Congrats to everyone who ran the marathon. It was truly inspiring!

Miss USA Send Off Party

Sunday night I had my Miss USA Sendoff Party! It was one of the most amazing nights I have ever had! The entire night I kept looking around the room and was in complete awe of what a lucky girl I am. I have been blessed with an amazing family, the most supportive boyfriend and wonderful friends, but since winning Miss Mass I have been blessed with an even bigger pageant family. I felt so lucky to have all of these people I love so much in one room and felt so much love and support, not to mention we had an amazing time!

My mom flew all the way out from California and it meant so much to me. She truly is my best friend and it wouldn't have been the same without her! I missed my dad and siblings so much but it was the last home Sharks game of the season and crunch time for the playoffs so they were back in Cali. The day was made even more special when we found out a few hours before the party that my dad's team, the San Jose Sharks, won the entire Western Conference and was headed into playoffs as the #1 seed in the West! That's one reason I'm up so late now updating my blogs, our first playoff game is on tonight and with the time change I will be up late watching, but I wouldn't miss it for the world! :)

Aaron and some of his teammates were able to come to my party as well, which truly made my day, because with his busy baseball schedule he works so hard and never has time off. To have both Aaron and my mom with me that night made my day!!! A few of my baseball girlfriends came as well and it was so fun to share with them all I have been doing as Miss Mass. I have such supportive girlfriends and it has made the journey to Miss USA that much more special for me.

I also had my entire pageant family there!!! I love them sooo much and can't even tell the next girl who will be crowned Miss Massachusetts how lucky you will be to have this team behind you! They have truly become my East Coast family and my best friends! I wanted to give a toast and thank everyone at the party, but we were having waaayyy too much fun dancing and enjoying the night, sign of a good party :) I'd like to give the award of best dancers to Neil, Katie and Monique ... you guys better hurry up and give me some of the moves for the Miss USA stage :)

So here goes .... Laurie, Anthony, Michelle, Paul, Ali, Rita, Jack, Vito, Lauren, Neil, katie, Sam, Stewart, Monique, Donna, Roger, Lori & Monica thank you for being the BEST pageant family and true family a girl could ever ask for!! Finally, Brooke the gift you gave me is truly one of the most amazing things I have ever received in my life! I can't wait to bring it to Vegas with me. It will without a doubt make me smile everyday! More than the crown, it is you guys that have made this year shine for me. I love you guys and hope you know that I thank God for all of you every single day. Vegas here we come!!

Packing!!

So as much as I love being Miss Massachusetts USA there is only one little thing that I DO NOT LIKE ...... Packing!! :) You would think having lived all over the country, traveling constantly for my job as a tv host, to Aaron's games and as Miss Mass I would be an expert packer, but sadly no :( No matter how hard I try I always overpack and with Miss USA being almost three weeks long I have one of my biggest packing jobs ahead of me and I'm determined to get it just right :) So in order to do that I've started very early and am proud to say I'm close to being done!
I could have never done it though on my own. Last week I headed to Houston, Texas for two quick but super productive days to visit one of my closest friends, stylist and pageant designer Gaspar Cruz. I met Gaspar when I was in college at USC and competed at Miss California USA and he has been a great friend to me ever since. Gaspar is one of the hardest workers and most passionate people I know and even though my busy schedule only allowed me 2 days to go visit him I knew we'd get tons done and have a little fun as well :) Boy was I right!!! We spent all day shopping and running around doing errands and alterations and stayed up all night labeling, organizing, taking pictures of outfits and getting my first suitcase packed up and ready to ship to the Planet Hollywood!
People often ask me what you have to do to get ready for Miss USA and it is pretty much impossible to explain sometimes. I know the other 50 contestants feel the same as me when I say we need to bring a crazy amount of stuff to Vegas for our jam packed itinerary of events!! :) Because of Gaspar and the amazing friend he is, I feel so organized and like I've made a major dent in my packing and even though it was exhausting, we always make our time together fun!
I wanted to share this funny picture with you to give you some insight into the behind the scenes prep of heading to Miss USA :) This pic was taken at 3am when I had a 6 am flight that morning back to Boston. We didn't sleep, we just stayed up all night packing and at one point I just laid on the floor in this huge heap of clothes haha! It was a great memory on my roadtovegas! Love you Gaspar!

Fun Friday Night with Emma

This post is dedicated to my friend Emma, who you've all heard me talk about :) Emma and I became buddies at the Muscular Dysrtophy gala early this year and her and her family have become a big part of my year as Miss Massachusetts. Emma is such a talented girl and such an inspiration to me because she truly enjoys everything life has to offer!
One of Emma's favorite things to do is dance and she had been working really hard for the past few months for her big Dance Recital. Aaron and I promised we would be there to see her big show! Emma was amazing and just lit up the stage! We had so much fun with her and loved meeting all of her friends and getting together for pizza after :) I am so proud of Emma and she looked absolutely adorable in her bunny dance costume, so I had to share some pics with you!

Best Buddies

I have to admit these past few weeks have probably been the busiest of my entire life and it is about to get even crazier!!! I have been working so hard on my Miss USA prep but while focusing on Miss USA and Miss Teen USA is a huge priority for Brooke and I we vowed when we won our titles back in November that we would never get too busy to remember what being representatives of our states was all about. Even though Miss USA is right around the corner I have still been working non-stop with all of my favorite organizations and enjoying every minute of it!
This weekend Brooke and I volunteered with one of our absolute favorite organizations of them all, Best Buddies! Best Buddies is a non-profit that creates opportunities for one on one friendships for people with intellectual and development disabilities. It is pretty much impossible to work with Best Buddies and not leave with a smile on your face. The energy, passion and heart that these children have is contagious and brings you back to what is truly important in life.
Brooke and I spent this past Saturday afternoon at the Best Buddies Friendship Relay, where we got to enjoy a full day of activities with these amazing children. One of our favorite girls, Jillian definitely kept us on our toes :) I have never met someone who loves to hug as much as Jillian or who enjoyed wearing my crown and sash more that I do :) It was such a treat to spend the day with Jillian and her friends and I can't thank this wonderful organization enough for including us. I can't wait to see all my new Buddies again soon!

Oscar Night Boston

I enjoy every event I get to do as Miss Massachusetts but I have to say last night was one of my favorite events I have had and I truly felt like a princess, thanks to all of my amazing sponsors! In celebration of Oscars Night I headed out to the Oscar Night Boston Gala, an event to benefit the Ellie Fund at the gorgeous Langham Hotel. The Red Carpet Event was not only a fabulous event, but it also benefitted a wonderful cause. The Ellie Fund is an outstanding organization that provides "hope, resources and care" to those suffering with Breast Cancer. They put on numerous events throughout the year but this is their big annual gala.
I have to thank my amazing sponsors for helping me to get ready for this big event. The Crowning Touch provided me with a stunning gown of my choice, Elyse Jewelers for providing me with gorgeous diamond jewelry and my stylist and amazing friend Neil for getting me all ready for the event and escorting me to the festivities :)

Neil and I had such a memorable night! We walked the red carpet, did a LIVE interview with Channel 5 as well as numerous other local stations, met so many wonderful people from the Ellie Fund, caught up with some friends and got to enjoy delicious food while watching the Live Show on huge screens in the ballroom. One of the coolest parts of the night was they handed out gorgeous program books to all of the guests during the show, the exact same programs that were being used at the Kodak Theater for all of the nominees!

Fall Into Fashion at Neiman Marcus

Tonight was another great event and at one of my favorite places .... Neiman Marcus! I have been modeling for Neimans for the past two years and absolutely love doing their events! This time they asked me to help host their Fall Into Fashion event to benefit The Women's Lunch Plate, a wonderful organization that provides safe, comfortable daytime shelter, nutritious food and services to homeless women throughout Boston.
One of my favorite things about doing the Neimans events is I get to work with my longtime friend and makeup artist, Rita :) Rita does my makeup for all my events at the store and is one of my closest friends! Her and her amazing family are even flying out to Vegas to cheer me on in May!
Throughout the night I met some amazing people, enjoyed shows and exhibits from the latest fashions and got to enjoy a wonderful Boston night out on the town! I even had a sweet girl come up to me and say that she drove an hour in the snow just to come meet me and hear about my pageant experience. It was so touching and we exchanged emails so we could keep in touch:) It's wonderful people like Rita and my new friends that I met tonight that make this such an enjoyable year! Fashionably Late

As Miss USA approaches my schedule is getting busier and busier but I'm loving every minute of it! This past week alone I had four great events! On Thursday night I headed to one of my favorite spots in Boston, The Liberty Hotel, for their Thursday night Fashionably Late Show. This week's event showcased local designer Samuel Vartan's 2010 resort collection and gorgeous jewelry by our Miss Massachusetts USA jewelry sponsor Elyse Jewelers.

The clothes and jewelry were beautiful and I was so excited because I got to do the event with Brooke, Ashley and the Rhode Island Girls! To make it even better a whole group from Clemente Productions came out to watch us that night! I love every minute I get to spend with all of them and feel sooo lucky to have the most amazingly supportive team around me as I get ready for Miss USA!
Tonight I had another event that I can't wait to share with you. But it's getting late and I'm off to bed because tomorrow is another busy day on my road to Miss USA .... early morning workout, appointment with our great dentist sponsor, working on some new segments for StyleBoston, then a charity event at the Top of the Hub tomorrow night to help aid in the relief efforts in Haiti. Shes Out of My League

I absolutely love my job as a TV Host for StyleBoston because everyday is an adventure and I am constantly meeting new amazing people. Of all my shoots, yesterday was probably one of my favorite so far! I headed to Cambridgeside Galleria for a little shopping and chatting with the two stars of the upcoming movie, "She's Out of My League."

I had so much fun hanging out with Alice and Krysten! They are such sweet girls and just as beautiful and stylish in person. There are some amazing fashions throughout the movie so I had to drill the girls on what their favorite outfits were, the designers they love and their own styling tips. This movie isn't only stylish but it's sure to bring a lot of laughs too! I'd recommend it as the perfect light hearted date night movie. New York City Fashion Week!

I had the most amazing trip this past weekend as I headed to NYC for New York City Fashion Week to celebrate my birthday and model in some shows. Brooke and I had such a great time and were busy non-stop with rehearsals, fittings and meetings! While we were busy working most of the time, we managed to fit in a little fun too! On Thursday night, Brooke and her mom took me to a birthday dinner at BLT, an amazing NYC Steakhouse! And on Saturday night I headed to dinner with my close friend, Miss Delaware USA. I was so happy to spend my weekend with some of my favorite people and to see what Fashion Week is all about! Workday at the Gym :)

I was so excited because this week my first segment with StyleBoston aired! We headed to Newbury Street, one of my favorite areas in Boston, and despite a snowy winter day had a great time shooting at beauty store Shu Uemera. Having gone to the University of Southern California, and earning a degree in Communications and Broadcasting this is truly a deam job to me! I love being on the go, meeting new people, learning new things and heading from location to location. Boston is such a great city and the StyleBoston team and I love showing you what it's all about! This season we look forward to covering everything from fashion to beauty to arts and culture to all the great dining and entertainment New England has to offer. Habitat For Humanity

Today I wokeup bright and early for a great cause! I bundled up, threw on my comfy shoes and my favorite ballcap.

I headed to Bedford, MA where I met up with Brooke, Ash and our friend Mrs. Massachusetts Jane Prochadszka. When we got there we met a wonderful crew of people, learned about the history of the Habitat for Humanity organization and immediately got to work. Being girls, especially pageant girls, I think people may have doubted what we could do off the bat. Brooke and I, being the athletes we are and loving a good challenge, immediately told them we wanted to really be put to work and that's exactly where they sent us! We were given shovels and led down to the basement where the home's washer and dryer and bathroom will be. We were assigned to dig a huge trench about four feet deep and six feet long. At first we thought it would be easy, but considering the mud was pretty frozen with ice and covered in huge rocks it was definitely the challenge we asked for!! Let's just say we got our workout in for the day and Katie Boyd would've been proud :) We got digging for the next four hours and I learned how to use a huge jack hammer for the first time in my life! Brooke and I can officially say we can have fun anywhere, even in a freezing cold basement digging holes in the mud :) We were so happy to help in our small way and the areas we dug up are where the pipes will go for the washer and dryer and the guest bathroom toilet. It was pretty cool what we were able to accomplish together!

After a few hours of work we got together to have lunch with about twenty other volunteers from the organization as well as the beautiful woman who will be living in the home. We also learned that in a few months Habitat for Humanity is doing a "women's build" and an entire house will be built by all women, everything from the plumbing to the electricity to the roof! Brooke and I definitely plan on being involved with that as well and look forward to spending time with our new friends. It's true, much of the job of Miss Massachusetts is very glamourous but some of the best days are days like this when we get down and dirty for a wonderful cause! This is what I love about the Miss Universe Organization, it's all about living a balanced lifestyle. It teaches you to know when to put on a gorgeous dress and when to just grab a shovel and get to work! I can't wait to stay in touch with this organization and I encourage everyone to take a few hours out of their next free weekend to get involved!!

After this wonderful morning, it's once again time to get all cleaned up and switch gear. Tonight Aaron and I are headed to my Buddy Emma's ballet recital ;) I can't wait to see her and catch up with her awesome family. I will be sure to post some cute pics :)

Miss USA Retreat

Well this weekend was one big adventure to say the least! Friday I packed my bags and headed to the airport for a whirlwind weekend in Virginia! I was off to Standout Productions Retreat with 23 of my Miss USA Class of 2010 sisters. Standout Productions is an amazing leadership retreat put on by former Miss USA Chelsea Cooley and fitness trainer and public speaker AT Dunn. Chelsea and AT put on this annual retreat for current titleholders as a way to, not only get us ready for nationals, but allow us to meet each other before the big event.
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this weekend but I new I was really excited about meeting some of the girls! I should probably knock on wood before I say this, but people always ask me if pageant girls are mean or catty and I have truly had the complete opposite experience! In my years of competing in the Miss USA system I have met some of my very best friends! The girls I meet are just normal girls like me, girls who went to college, enjoy sports, and are fun, adventurous and truly just looking to reach their dreams and career goals. Ashley, Miss Connecticut, and I headed to the airport so excited to meet some new girls who we would share our Miss USA journey with! One of the first girls I met was Miss Alabama and I knew we would be instant friends, she is sooo spunky and genuine and as we always joke us two blondes somehow always end up next to each other in every picture :) She taught me how to say ya'll and introduced me to southern foods such as fried okra and gritts for the first time :) I also got to know Wisconsin, North Carolina and Mississippi as they were my cabinmates for the weekend. They were all so amazing and sweet and almost too much so because we stayed up into the late hours chatting :) I got to catch up with other girls I am already friends with and absolutely adore such as Delaware, Rhode Island and my roomie at Miss USA Miss Pennsylvania. All the girls I met were truly so sweet, fun and are just as excited as me to head to Miss USA in a few months.

Throughout the weekend we listened to inspirational seminars, practiced our interviewing skills, walking skills and talked about how to stay mentally strong throughout the long Miss USA journey. Beyond that I tried a lot of new things and have to say I had to be pretty brave :) In just three short days we went rollerskating, ziplining through the forrest, paintballing, horsebackriding, snowboarding, climbed to the top of a telephone pole and took our leap of faith onto a trapeze hanging in the middle of the forrest, snowboarding and some girls even flew planes!!!! While many of these things took me out of my comfort zone and took a lot of trust and support from my new friends, this weekend taught me so many things. I conquered some of my biggest fears and learned that sometimes you just have to go for it! It truly is mind over matter and by trusting yourself and your friends around you you can conquer pretty much anything!
This weekend was truly one of the most inspirational weekends I have ever had and was truly life changing. I met some amazing people who I know will not only be apart of my Miss USA journey but part of my life for many years to come. Thank you to Standout Productions for everything you did for us, it is these adventures that make being Miss Massachusetts USA the journey of a lifetime!

Muscular Dystrophy Gala 2010

So the crazy whirlwind continues and it's a great one! On Monday I had one of the most rewarding nights since being crowned! I was honored to be invited as a special guest to the 2010 Muscle Team Boston Muscular Dystrophy Gala at the Boston Fairmont. I attended with my wonderful directors Laurie and Anthony, as well as Aaron and Ashley who were special guests as well.

I had been looking forward to the event all weekend because I knew I would get to hangout with my buddy Emma and her amazing parents, as well as meet some more of the adorable children! The energy when we walked into the gorgeous ballroom for the meet and greet was so electric! The energy, spunk and smiles that these kids possess are just contagious and my little buddy Emma held my hand and escorted me around the room, introducing me to all of her friends, including her favorite friend the Boston Bruins mascot Blaze :)

I was so proud of Emma because at such a young age she is such an intelligent, confident, gracious little girl and she has done such an amazing job as an MDA Goodwill Ambassador. The truly rewarding thing about this event is that it works to raise money specifically to send the children of MDA to an amazing summer camp! In the end, we raised enough money to send 61 kids to camp this year and you could just see them all beaming with joy as the announcement was made that they would all be able to attend.

I had such a wonderful night and really enjoyed working together with other leaders and influential Bostonians, from Bruins and Red Sox to Celtics and Patriots, that night we all came together for one cause and that was these precious children! I am beyond excited because this week I start a new adventure! I've been lucky enough to join the StyleBoston Team as an on-air fashion host! StyleBoston is a New England tv show featuring all the fashion, lifestyle, design, travel, event, and leisure that Boston has to offer! You can watch StyleBoston on Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm on NECN as we show you what this amazing city has to offer!

I have my Miss Massachusetts USA title to thank for leading me to this exciting new opportunity. A few weeks ago I was at an event for Boston Magazine and StyleBoston and had the pleasure of meeting Terri Stanley, host and producer of the show. Being a huge fan of StyleBoston, I noticed Terri right away! Not a

difficult task because being the fashionista she is she stood out from the crowd in her gorgeous dress. She was so gracious and came right up to me to introduce herself and congratulate me on my title. I was thrilled when she offered to have me come in and meet with her and discuss future opportunities with the show! I couldn't be more excited about joining this show, it truly is one of a kind here in Boston and we have so many exciting segments in the works.

Today was my first big meeting with the Style team at their beautiful loft office in Boston. The space just oozes creativity and I love it! The StyleBoston team is so amazing and are truly passionate about what they do. Next week I'll be out on the town shooting my first fashion segments, a special Valentines segment, as well as a promo and our new ad for Boston Magazine! Ever have one of those weeks where you feel like you barely have a minute to breathe or relax? Well this week is definitely that week for me, but I wouldn't want it any other way! Yesterday I woke up bright and early to catch the train to NYC for a shoot with the famous Fadil Berisha! Fadil is one of my favorite photographers to work with! He is so incredibly talented and has been apart of the Miss USA family for many years. This shoot with Fadil was especially fun because I got to meet some of my Miss USA Class of 2010 sisters and spend some time with former Miss USA Chelsea Cooley! I had the opportunity to spend the day with Miss Wisconsin and Miss New York, who were such sweet gorgeous girls! I also got to meet my roommate, Miss Pennsylvania! She's such a great girl and we have so much in common, I know we will have an amazing three weeks together at Miss USA! Lucky for me, I get to see these girls again tomorrow as I head to Virginia for my Miss USA retreat, along with 2o other states. Brooke and I can't wait to meet everyone and continue this amazing journey!

My Sunday Playdate

So Sundays have officially become one of my favorite days of the week. It was on Sunday, November 22nd that I achieved my dream of becoming Miss Massachusetts USA and ever since I have had some wonderful Sunday memories! Today was definitely one of my favorite!

This week is the big Team Boston Muscular Dystrophy Event at the Boston Fairmont and I have been lucky enough to have been paired up with a buddy of my own! Today I decided to spoil my buddy Emma and get her all ready for the event! I knew it would be a wonderful day, but little did I know it would be one of my very favorite to date as Miss Massachusetts. The day started off early, as I bundled up to head out to Milton, MA to meet Emma and her amazing dad Chris. We caught up for awhile and then Chris decided to give us some girl time, since Emma loves her girl time :) Emma and I went to get manicures at her favorite salon so she would feel beautiful and all ready for the big event Tuesday. Emma is a very stylish girl and decided to go with a gold sparkly polish that would match her beautiful black dress and headband she plans to wear to the gala. Emma and I had such a blast getting our nails done and chatted non stop, becoming instant friends!

After our manicures Emma and I weren't ready to say goodbye just yet, so she decided to take me to her favorite lunch place. Emma's favorite foods are clam chowder and mac & cheese and she claimed this spot had the best of both, and boy was she right! :) Her dad, Emma and I set off to the cozy restaraunt and I was so happy to get some more time with her.

After we ordered Emma gave me one of my favorite presents I have ever received! It was a beautiful picture of her & I on stage the night of my pageant, with a message written around it that said "Love, Emma." I love it so much and it brought back such wonderful memories. I then told Emma I had a present for her and gave her a little pink box with a necklace with her initial to wear to the gala. Pink is her favorite color so she was very excited!

During lunch, Aaron called and wanted to say hi to Emma too. Being the adorable outgoing girl she is she immediately grabbed the phone and said, "Hi Aaron! This is Emma! Can't wait to meet you Tuesday. Could you please bring me a baseball bat?!" It made me laugh because she is just the sweetest thing ever! She's not afraid to let you know what she wants and I love that about her! Her dad and I exchanged a smile as Aaron told her of course he would!

After the talk and the lunch, Emma insisted that she wanted to get a present for Aaron too. Because that is just the sweet girl Emma is, always wanting to give more than receive. She then took me across the street to her favorite cookie shop where she picked out a Boston Red Sox teddy bear cookie and asked the shop owner to put Aaron's number on the back in frosting. Everyone in Emma's town knows and loves her so they said absolutely! I promised Emma I'd give the cookie to Aaron right away and she beamed with joy.

I learned a lot of things about Emma today. She loves the color pink, glittery nail polish, horseback riding, arts and crafts, museums, marilyn monroe (she dressed up as her for Halloween), ginger bread houses, chinese food and disney movies. But beyond this I learned some deeper things about her as well. She comes from the most loving, supportive, proud parents a girl could ask for, she is one of the most intelligent people I know and she has the biggest most genuine heart and smile a girl could ask for! As we headed out of the cookie shop she held my hand and gave me a HUGE hug, she made me promise after the event next week to take her to see The Princess and The Frog and get a huge tub of popcorn! Emma is very easy to please and I promised her we would have many more adventures together this year! Being Miss Massachusetts affords me many opportunities, but my friendship with Emma and her family is one I know I will cherish the most! I look forward to many more memorable Sundays to come!

7th Annual Flutie Bowl for Autism

On Monday, Brooke and I had an amazing appearance at the 7th Annual Doug Flutie Bowl for Autism. Lucky me, it was held at Lucky Strike Lanes right down the street! We were so honored to be invited, along with numerous Boston athletes. One of my favorite things about Boston is what a wonderful sports city it is and it's always so nice to see the athletes giving back. Along with members of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, Brooke and I helped to raise an amazing amount of money to fight autism. Brooke & I sold over 400 raffle balloons valued at $20 each to help earn funds for the foundation!

Brooke & I were laughing because being 5'9" and 5'11" it isn't often that we feel short. But standing next to the football players we felt short for the first time in awhile! The height difference definitely made for some great pictures and good laughs :) Brooke, her mom and I had an amazing night for an amazing cause! Thank you to everyone at the Flutie Foundation for including us!

A pageant queen should have a jaw-dropping body -- but 25-year-old Lacey Wilson, the current Miss Massachusetts USA, prides herself on keeping it all in perspective. The California native, who's been modeling since childhood, insists that fitness has as much to do with how you feel as how you look. "One of the great things about Miss USA is that they promote a balanced lifestyle," she says. "I know all the pressure about body image. But this is about health. The women are fit, toned, and athletic." In other words, they're not sandwich-starved waifs. To keep her own body in shape, Wilson works out regularly (not shocking for a woman whose dad was an NHL pro and whose boyfriend is a Pawtucket Red Sox player). She raves about her gym, the Miss Fit Club in Wellesley, where she works out with her longtime trainer, Katie Boyd. "There are all body types, no pressure. It's a very motivating social environment," Wilson said on the day of our interview. "In fact, I haven't worked out at all today, and I'm not wearing any makeup." Catch her in a very different mode on April 18, when she'll compete for the Miss USA crown on NBC.

NYC Fashion Week!

I am sooo excited because Brooke and I just found out we both booked shows for NYC Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! Designers will be showing their 2010 Fall Collections February 11-18th throughout NYC. In college I had the opportunity to model in San Francisco Fashion Week but this will be my first time in the NYC shows and I couldn't be more excited! New York is the Fashion Mecca and Brooke and I are looking forward to working, as well as attending a few shows ourselves. Fashion Week falls on my birthday this year and I can't imagine a better way to spend it! NYC here we come!!

Dream Big!

In all the craziness and excitement of my preparation for Miss USA it's not often that I get to spend a weekend with my family! But this weekend I did! We headed to Vail, Colorado for one of my dearest friend's wedding! It was one of the most beautiful, elegant and fun wedding weekends I've ever been to and I was so excited to share it with my family and amazing friends.

So what does this wedding weekend have to do with my Miss USA journey you may wonder? Well let me tell you :) As I headed to Colorado little did I know I would learn something at the wedding that I would take away with me during my preparations for Miss USA!

At the beginning of the gorgeous reception the bride's mom and dad took to the microphone to congratulate their beautiful daughter and give a few words of wisdom. The Compton family are dear friends of ours and I truly respect and look up to both of Elena's parents. They are such gracious, humble people and I enjoy every minute I get to spend with their family. While her Dad spoke of all the craziness leading up to the big day and all the planning that had gone into the event he said something that really hit home with me. He said, my biggest piece of advice to all of you is, "Dream Big and then think small."

Since I was a little girl I've always been a big dreamer and my parents always taught me to aim high and set high goals and expectations for myself and then work hard to get there. To this day I still try to do that. Every morning when I wakeup I try to think what I can do to better prepare myself for Miss USA, be a good Miss Massachusetts USA and make my state proud. This quote reminded me that while it is important to "Dream Big" it's also important to enjoy the journey and the little things along the way.

So far for me some of the little moments have been; giving my mom the first hug after I won, spending time with my sister queen Brooke, hearing the inspirational stories during my work with Susan G Komen and one of my favorite little moments when an adorable little girl came up to me at an event and said, "When I grow up I'm going to be Hannah Montana." It's these moments that make me smile and what being Miss Massachusetts USA is truly all about.

My message this year is just that ... Dream Big every single day but don't forget to enjoy and cherish the small moments along the way. It's those moments that will make achieving your dreams worthwhile!

This week was one of my most memorable yet as Miss Massachusetts USA! I got the chance to spend the week with some of the people who mean the most to me, my mom, my directors and my teen Brooke and her mom, as we headed to NYC for some work and fun :) I was so excited because my mom flew all the way from California just to be with me and help me pick out the dress of my dreams :) She truly is my best friend and it meant so much to have her there.

Tuesday started bright and early as my mom and I headed to meet my directors, Laurie and Anthony, to start the Miss USA dress hunt. I am such a lucky girl because my dress sponsors, Maria and Raquel, from the Crowning Touch were there every second of the way to help me find the perfect dress! It meant so much to me to have all of them there and it was such a fun memory! I was a little nervous because I had a picture of my dream dress in my head and I wasn't sure if I would find it, but I did!!!!!!!!! I couldn't be more ecstatic and grateful and the minute I stepped out of the dressing room we knew it was THE one. It was such a special moment to have all these people here with me and as Anthony put it, "That's a Wrap!"

As if the day couldn't get any better, I then got to meet up with my teen Brooke and her mom. They are truly like a second family to me and make every step of my journey as Miss Massachusetts USA that much better. People always ask Brooke and I if we are sisters and even though we aren't we feel like we are!! I love every minute I get with Brooke because we truly are two peas in a pod :) Our titles mean so much to us and while it is such a great adventure we both want to do such wonderful things and truly give back to all the people who have helped us along the way and to the state we love! Having a sister queen with the same values, heart and work ethic that I hope to have everyday is such a blessing! Two truly is better than one and together this year Brooke and I plan to do so many wonderful things and really use our titles in a positive way! She has become not only family but one of my very best friends and I love her so much!! I can't wait to cheer her on at Teen USA and spend more time with her wonderful family!

Brooke, being the amazing sister she is got me an audition for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week so Tuesday night we headed over for the big audition!! It went so well and we had such a wonderful night! NYC Fashion week this year is on my birthday, so crossing my fingers that will bring me some good luck and Brooke and I will book some shows together!! I'll keep you posted! But either way, it was such a wonderful trip and I truly couldn't ask for more!!

Ovations For the Cure

Last night was an amazing night for an amazing cause! I had the privilege to model gorgeous designs by local Boston designer, Daniela Corte, at the new Ames Hotel. The event was a series of fashions shows called "Cure Her in Couture." Ovations for the Cure is a national ovarian cancer organization that works to raise funds for ovarian cancer research, awareness and patient programs. The event was a sell out and a wonderful way for Bostonians to enjoy a night of chic fashion and friends all while supporting a wonderful cause. It was a great show and I was so proud to be apart of it, along with many of my friends from Maggie Models. Thank you to everyone who came out!

A Year of Great Memories

As I look back on 2009, I can't help but smile and be so incredibly grateful. It was truly one of the most inspiring, rewarding, memorable years of my life filled with crazy adventures, touching moments, lots of laughs and even some tears. Everything that happened to me this year was achieved with a lot of patience, perserverance and a lot of love and support!

I had the opportunity to do one of the things I love most, travel! I spent time in California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Arizona, Florida, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut & New York, to name a few. I had the most inspiring weekend of my life, when I walked 60 miles in one weekend for the Susan G. Komen Race for the cure. I received an award for being one of the highest fundraisers for breast cancer research funds in the state of Massachusetts. I witnessed my boyfriend's MLB Debut and first hit at Fenway Park with my mom and dad by my side and was beyond inspired and proud. I celebrated my brother's college graduation from Tufts University. I spent endless days going from audition to audition, loving every minute of it and learning so much, regardless of the outcome. I gained a second family when my teen Brooke was crowned. I helped my family move into a new home and was once again inspired by my mom and her ability to make a home so beautiful, warm and welcoming. I spent summer nights at baseball games. I visited one of the Top 3 beaches in the world. I brushed up on my Spanish with a Thanksgiving trip to Puerto Rico and thought of my Nonnie who had instilled in me an appreciation for the language. I witnessed a historical presidential election. I was inspired by my dad's endless work ethic, passion and class and motivated by my mom's ability to make everyone around her smile. And to top it all off, I achieved a life long dream.

I have had so many wonderful experiences this year and through them all have had the best family and friends a girl could ask for by my side. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2010 has in store for me and will always look back on 2009 with a smile and so much gratitude. I hope the New Year brings all the people I love nothing but happiness and memories to last a lifetime.

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year to all my friends and family! I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful first day of 2010!! I was so lucky to spend mine here in Boston and experience one of the greatest sports events of the year, the NHL Winter Classic!! Living down the street from Fenway Park, I had so much fun being in the center of the action and loved every minute of it!

Aaron and I started our day out early and strolled down to Fenway to catch some of the live music and all of the festivities! One of my favorite things about Boston is how passionate its' sports fans are and today was no different! It was a gorgeous winter day and Fenway was truly transformed into a winter wonderland!! People from all over came to watch some of the greatest players in hockey play in the annual New Year's Day game! After the game, they announced the US Olympic Hockey team and it was such a touching and inspiring thing to see!

Thanks to my good friend, Kristine, after the game we got the once in a lifetime opportunity to go down on the ice and see it up close!! I even got to shoot a puck, stand in the announcer booth and walk on the ice!! It was so inspiring and truly a day to remember! I am so proud to live in such an amazing, vibrant, passionate city and couldn't have asked for a better way to start my year!!

I wish everyone tons of love, happiness and great times ahead in 2010!! I can't wait to see what it has in store :)

Habitat For Humanity

Now that the holidays are over and the new year is upon us I am so excited to get back in the swing of things and back to focusing, on not only my preparations for the upcoming Miss USA pageant, but also my work throughout the state of Massachusetts. Living in the heart of Boston, I am so fortunate to live in such a vibrant, active city with so many opportunities to get involved and give back to my amazing state. In a few weeks, Brooke and I will be doing just that as we put the makeup and high heels aside and strap on our work boots as Habitat For Humanity hits the road in Massachusetts.

On February 6th, Brooke and I will be spending the day with a wonderful team of volunteers as we work to build a home for a beautiful mother and her children. Following this wonderful day Brooke and I will also be participating in "Women Build Week" May 1-9th. I hope everyone had an absolutely amazing holiday with their loved ones! I was so lucky to spend the holidays in Hawaii with my entire family!! Being the oldest of four siblings, who are all away at different colleges with their own crazy schedules, I cherish every chance I get to spend time with all of them. It was a great trip filled with sun, lounging, fabulous dinners, a visit from santa and thanks to my sis a few gym trips :)

While we did our best to relax, my sis Chels did a good job of keeping me somewhat on track with my workouts. We definitely had our fair share of hula pie and banana smoothies so we attempted to balance it out with morning workouts on the beach. I didn't feel too guilty as I know Miss Katie Boyd will be right there the second I get back to Boston ready to kick my butt into Miss USA shape and get me focused :)

Each morning Chels and I started our day with workouts overlooking the beach. It was so gorgeous and we did a little of everthing, from a pilates class to some running to a step class that literally kicked my butt :) I love working out and being healthy so I'm always up for something new and my sis is the perfect workout partner!

Im back to Boston tomorrow and even though it will be a lot colder than Hawaii, I have to admit I've missed it :) I'm looking forward to a busy next few weeks filled with shoots, shows, charity events and shopping for my Miss USA gown! I can't wait!! I hope everyone has a relaxing, safe and wonderful last few days of 2009! Can't wait to see everyone in the New Year!

Living on the East Coast definitely has it perks and one of those perks is living a short distance from New York City!! I recently had the opportunity to travel to NYC for a few days for a shoot with the famous photographer Fadil Berisha. Shooting with Fadil is something I have wanted to do for years and it was an amazing experience! As the official photographer of the Miss USA pageant I will get the chance to shoot with Fadil again in April and I am so excited. During my shoot I had the chance to meet the gorgeous Miss Kosovo, 3rd runner up this year at Miss Universe, who now lives in NYC and models for Trump Model Management. She was just as gorgeous in person and so sweet! It was such a great day and I can't wait to see the pictures!

While in NYC I also got asked to do some fit modeling for the newest line of denim for Vintage1 jeans. I absolutely love their new stuff and despite the freezing cold I had a blast trying on their new jean skirts, shorts and distressed denim coming to stores this Spring. The owners were so great and even sent my sister and I home with a selection of jeans and tank tops which I will be sure to bring to Miss USA :) You can check out their new line at: http://www.vintage1.com/

Dancing With the Stars

Brooke and I had a great time this past week as the Dancing with the Stars Tour came to Boston! It was a fun filled night of fashion and dancing and Brooke and I had so much fun at our first appearance together! The night started out with a fashion show where we modeled designs from local Boston designer Michael De Paulo. His dresses were gorgeous and I'm looking forward to visiting his showroom as I get my wardrobe ready for Miss USA :) After the fashion show we stayed to watch Dancing with Stars cast members Edyta Sliwinska and Elec Mazo perform for the live audience. Muscular Dystrophy Team Boston

I am sooo excited because this week I received my buddy for the year for Muscle Team Boston. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is an organization that raises money with the goal to find treatments and cures for neuromuscular disease. This organization also provides healthcare, support and education to patient's and their families. I am so thrilled that our directors have chosen this as one of our main causes this year and that I have the honor of being a buddy and mentor to an adorable little girl.

I absolutely adore children and I am beyond excited that throughout my year as Miss Massachusetts I get to share my journey with a beautiful little girl and truly make an impact on her life. As a mentor I will be spending time with my buddy on a regular basis, keeping in touch with her through phone and email weekly and making sure she feels special and loved.

My buddy Emma is nine years old and loves Hannah Montana, Mac & Cheese and the Red Sox :) I can't wait to take her to a game this year!! I was so enthusiastic about getting to know Emma and was raving to Aaron about how adorable she was and I got him on the Bandwagon too! Aaron has decided to sponsor a child as well and from what I hear his little boy loves baseball, so it's a match made in heaven!

In January, Aaron and I will have the honor of attending the 2010 Muscle Team Boston Gala at the Fairmont here in Boston, where we will get to spend a wonderful evening with our buddies and their families. I am so excited!

A Sisterly Bond

Today's post is about her because I'm so excited that I just heard she got an A on a huge senior project she was working on. The project she was working on was for her senior photography class and the assignment was to pick an event that was special in her life and to document it through photos. Being the supportive sister she is, she chose my pageant!!! Chels came out to Miss Mass and took the most amazing pictures ever and put together a beautiful project in honor of me winning Miss Mass! I can't wait to go home for the holidays and see it. I love u Chels!!

So my favorite time of year is here!! As I started my day off this morning, stepping out into the chilly air carrying my red holiday Starbucks cup that always makes my smile, I couldn't help but think of how much I have to be grateful for this holiday season. Becoming Miss Massachusetts USA was truly a dream come true and competing at Miss USA has been a goal of mine for many many years. As I start my preparations and begin my year I'm trying to do what my Dad has always taught me and "Take time to enjoy the Journey and be grateful everyday." I am soo excited about where this journey is going to take me and so lucky to be surrounded by the most amazing people during this crazy adventure.

Anyone who knows me knows my family is my heart and soul and truly my best friends. I didn't think I could get any luckier in the family department, but it turns out I have! Since becoming Miss MA USA I have been welcomed into a whole new family, my Clemente Pageant Family! I have never in my life met such supportive, loving, genuine people! People who remind me so much of my own family and keep me smiling everyday :)

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend the day with this new family as we had our first official meeting, our holiday photoshoot and a special dinner! It was truly one of the best days I have ever had and as I sat at the dinner table I couldn't help but think what a lucky girl I am this holiday season.

To my CT & VT sisters I love you all very much and am so excited to share this journey with you!

An Amazing Event

On December 6th I had one of my favorite appearances ever! :) I was a guest at a Christmas Fashion Show and Holiday Event for Paula Terenzi's Dance Complex. It was such a wonderful day and the girls were absolutely adorable! It was an amazing event that encourages young girls to use dance and modeling as a way to gain self confidence, poise and to make wonderful friends. I had the opportunity to judge the dance competition and I truly didn't want to pick winners because all of the girls were just so sweet :) My teen Brooke and I loved spending time with the girls and their families and it really got us into the holiday spirit. Paula was even generous enough to offer me dance lessons at her studio to help me get ready for the production at Miss USA. Anyone who knows me knows I will definitely be taking advantage of this offer as dancing is not my strongest area :) Thank you Paula for an amazing day! I can't wait to visit you and the girls again soon.

A Dream Come True
